December 3 – International Day of Persons with Disabilities

Physical disability brings great challenges to the daily activities of an individual. On December 3rd, the world celebrates International Day of Persons with Disabilities. The occasion was inaugurated by the United Nations in 1992 and continues to commemorate the resiliency and confidence of individuals who are coping with mobility problems.

Conducting Informative Exhibitions

Institutions such as the Kuwait Dyslexia Association have taken part in scientific exhibitions that raise awareness on disabilities. This way, beneficiaries from the association can get the social support from care groups and main stream society, which helps them to integrate into communities and contribute just like everyone else.

Giving Talks in Organizations

Physiotherapists and caregivers may give insightful presentations to spread awareness within different organizations through covering topics on inclusiveness and giving the disabled the opportunity to live life to the fullest, just like anyone else – this includes fairness in employment.

Charity & Social Responsibility

Some companies may organize carnivals and other fun-filled events where proceeds will go toward funding a charitable organization in support of their facilities and services.

Organizations may arrange for special collaborations to help children with disabilities. These events might contain fun-filled activities for the children while spreading awareness on disabilities through sustainable social responsibility. This also involves the removal of social barriers from society that might prevent disabled individuals from seeking fair employment.

Anyone can become a part of this meaningful annual event, by spreading awareness and understanding on disability issues and showing their support for rehabilitative organizations and events throughout the world. Together, we can make a difference.
